Stages of Lung Cancer

As we talk about lung cancer, it’s important for readers to know and to differentiate the stages of Lung Cancer which indicates the seriousness of the disease.

People with stage 1 lung cancer generally have the most promising outlook.

Current statistics suggest that anywhere from 70% to 92% of people with stage 1 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) can expect to live at least 5 years following their diagnosis.1

Patients with late stage lung cancer (Stage 3-4), only between 5% to 15% of those diagnosed will live up to 5 years or more.1

Hence LCNM is encouraging people at risk of Lung Cancer to undergo lung screening to facilitate early detection and more effective treatment of lung cancer.

However, with newer and more effective treatment such as, New Technology in Radiotherapy, Targeted Therapy and Immunotherapy, many Lung Cancer patients live well beyond five years.

LCNM is also currently piloting the use of a new & technologically advanced, Artificial Intelligence X-Ray System together with Qualitas Health Clinics in the Klang Valley. This advanced X-Ray system is able to provide a highly detailed X-Ray image of the lungs and is capable of highlighting even small abnormalities on the X-Ray.

Patients with lung X-Ray abnormalities are thereafter recommended to undergo a Low-Dose CT (LDCT) scan to confirm the exact 3D position of the abnormality within the lungs. A consultant would then be able to explain the next course of action based on the LDCT findings.
